Curiosity, food science and systems thinking

My name is Patrik Homola, and Cookyfy grew out of the place where my curiosity about food meets food technology, chemistry, biotechnology, cooking and software engineering.

Ever since I was a child, I have wanted to understand how things work — and, more importantly, why they work the way they do. One of my favourite books growing up was Už viem prečo 2, a children’s book full of explanations about the world. I was fascinated by nuclear power plants, atoms, carbon, oil refining and the hidden processes that shape the world around us.

That curiosity naturally led me towards food technology, chemistry and biotechnology. Later, software engineering added another layer: it taught me how to turn a large amount of knowledge into a clear, connected and genuinely useful system.

Food technology, chemistry and biotechnology

I studied food technology, chemical engineering and later completed doctoral research at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. My work focused mainly on enzymes, microorganisms and biotechnological processes — topics closely connected to how food is produced, transformed and shaped by biological and chemical reactions.

This background does not make Cookyfy a medical authority, and it should not be understood that way. But it does shape how I think about food: not only as a recipe, but as a connection between ingredients, chemistry, biology, technology, culture and everyday cooking.

From chemical engineering to software

After university, I spent several years working as a chemical engineer, technologist and project manager in biotechnological production. It was work with real processes, raw materials, microorganisms, manufacturing and technology at an industrial scale.

During that time, I became even more aware that food, chemistry, microorganisms, technology and production are not separate worlds. They are parts of one larger system.

Later, I became increasingly drawn to digital technology. I moved into IT and have now worked as a software engineer for almost ten years. Programming taught me how to organise information so that it becomes clearer, better connected and more useful for people.

Why Cookyfy exists

Cookyfy exists at the intersection of these worlds. It is not meant to be just another collection of recipes. It is an attempt to connect cooking, food technology, chemistry, biotechnology, food safety and modern software into one understandable platform.

A recipe should not be an isolated page. It should be connected to ingredients, cooking techniques, country of origin, history, scientific principles and practical questions of food safety.

Good, healthy food is a story of ingredients, microorganisms, heat, time, chemistry, culture and human experience.

The goal of Cookyfy is simple: to help people cook better, understand food more deeply and make more informed decisions in the kitchen — without making things unnecessarily complicated, but with respect for science, tradition and real everyday cooking.

A note on expertise

Cookyfy is an editorial and educational project about food. It does not provide personal medical, legal or dietary advice. For topics related to health or food safety, we recommend also following official guidance and expert sources.
